Inside Cisco's Stand-Out Approach To Partner-Friendly Services Programs

While Cisco (NSDQ:CSCO)'s ongoing corporate restructuring has put many of its investment priorities on the back burner, one area to which the networking titan is devoting serious time and resources is in the growth of its services organization, particularly the professional services programs it offers through channel partners.
To hear its services team team tell it, the reason for doing so is clear-cut. Cisco wants to put some distance between Cisco's services programs -- already some of the most highly regarded among tier-one channel vendors -- and those of competing vendors like Hewlett Packard and IBM whom Cisco says don't offer nearly the rewards or potential for partner profitability that Cisco does.
Services now account for more than 50 percent of Cisco partner revenues -- a substantial jump from roughly 10 percent as recently as four years ago. That kind of growth means Cisco services has to be a global channel priority, Nick Earle, senior vice president of worldwide services sales and channels, said. He added that Cisco's strategy around "smart services" is the most partner-friendly in the industry.
Earle was promoted to the role as part of a number of Cisco executive changes this summer, and he serves as the field chief for all of Cisco's global services organizations, with the various Cisco services sales leaders in each of Cisco's sales geographies now reporting to him. Cisco Chief Operating Officer Gary Moore, Earle's manager, retains P&L responsibility for the services business, which is about a $10 billion contributor to Cisco's more than $43 billion revenue pie.
Earle's charter is to make clearer how Cisco expects services field engagements to take place, to offer partners more access to Cisco intellectual capital as they build their professional services organizations, and to leverage development and also acquisitions Cisco's made to automate the delivery of services using software.
The last point is huge, said Earle, who said that buy Cisco has reached a point now where 93 percent of all the services support calls it receives can be handled using software. And that isn't merely automated call center responses, he said, it's the potential to diagnose network problems -- such as a needed upgrade to a later version of Cisco's IOS software -- remotely.
"The moment you have this capability with software, the first benefit is your margins go up, but the second benefit is you can take those software capabilities to your partners," Earle said. "Everything that we have in smart services we make available through partners. They're accessing our capital and they wrap their own unique value around that, whether that's multivendor support, or Microsoft (NSDQ:MSFT) capabilities."
More services also enable more product sales. wholesale Cisco claims that partners who sell Cisco's Smart Care service -- a network maintenance and monitoring package for SMBs -- end up selling more hardware than partners who don't.
"If a customer's network is more stable and everything's working, they'll buy advanced capabilities and put them on top, such as video," he said. "Partners that are smart services-enabled are selling more hardware. That's a fact."

Cisco 2960 Switch, New Features Available

The WS-C2960S-48LPD-L is their entry level datacenter access layer switch.  Many people expected some minor hardware improvements, but nothing drastic.  Cisco proved them wrong.   With this refresh came a ton on new features and upgrades that have been brought down from Cisco higher end switches.  Here is a list of some of the bigger increases from the older 2960 line:

Stack Support
The new feature allows you to stack up to 4 2960S WS-C2960S-24PS-L switches to act as one big layer 2 switch (192 ports).  This provides easier management, redundancy, and most of all, a cheaper option when needing to go beyond 48 ports.  In the past, this would require some crazy daisy chaining of switches, or lots of trunks, or even a chassis based switch which would cost lots of money.  Here, when you fill up your current switch, you purchase another switch, and stack them together to get 1 bigger switch.  This is very popular in the 3750 series, which have allowed stacking for some time.

10gigE Support
The WS-C2960S-48LPS-L now has a couple models that support 10gigE interfaces (2 per switch).  This is a great option if you have some bandwidth needed devices on the switch (i.e. a SAN of some sort).  Cisco has a couple of different types, depending on your need.  It’s a great low cost 10gigE option for those who need limited 10gigE support.

Increased Bandwidth
The Cisco 2960 has an upgraded backplane which is now 176Gbps rather than 32Gbps for the old line. This allows for more switching fabric available.

Increased Packet per Second Count
Compared to the older model most models now have a 10x improvement on packets per second.

Those are just a few of the new features available on the refreshed 2960S switch line.  These switches are ideal for clients who have high bandwidth needs, with large port usage needs.  Indeed, the Cisco WS-C2960S-48FPS-L Line is a great product at a great price!

How to Recover/Reset Password on Cisco 3925

The Cisco 3925 router is part of a family of networking equipment produced by Cisco, which has been a network equipment giant for many years. Used 3925 routers are available on the Internet at reasonable prices, so acquiring one is not difficult. However, if the password is unknown or lost, reconfiguration is impossible until the password is reset or recovered. Cisco has built in a procedure for rescuing lost or forgotten passwords or entering new passwords.

Instructions
1. Connect your computer to the router with the blue serial-to-RJ-45 cable that came with the router. The 9-pin D-shell end connects to your computer's serial port, while the RJ-45 end connects to the console jack on the router. The RJ-45 end resembles a slightly larger telephone jack connector.

2. Turn on your computer and establish a terminal session to the 3925. You can use any terminal emulator, and many are freely available on the Internet. Configure the session settings as follows:
9600 baud
8 data bits
No parity
1 stop bit
No flow control

Plug the router's power cable into an electrical outlet, and as the cisco 3925 router boots, you should see the Cisco boot messages. If you don't see any output on your computer's terminal session, check your settings on the session and restart it if necessary. Press "Break" within 30 seconds of powering on the router to enter rommon (rom monitor) mode.

3. Type "confreg 0x2142" and press "Enter" at the "rommon 1>" prompt. This will cause the router to boot from its internal flash memory without loading the configuration into memory. At the following "rommon 2>" prompt, type "reset" and press "Enter." This will cause the router to reload and ignore the previously saved configuration file.

4. Respond "no" and press "Enter" when prompted for responses to enter the initial dialog or basic management setup. Type "enable" and press "Enter" at the following "Router>" prompt. This will put you into enable mode and display the "Router#" prompts. Copy the non-volatile memory into memory with the "copy startup-config running-config" command, followed by the "Enter" key. Type "sho run" at the prompt and press "Enter" to display the current configuration, including the passwords, some of which may be encrypted.

5. Type "config t" at the prompt and press "Enter." At the "Router(config)#" prompt, type "enable secret <pswd>" -- where "pswd" is the password -- and press "Enter." At this point, your enable password is reset. Press "Ctrl" + "z" to return to the "Router#" prompt.

6. Type "config t" at the "Router#" prompts and presses "Enter." At the "Router(config)#" prompt, type "config-register 0x02102" and press "Enter" to reset the boot register to its normal setting. Press "Ctrl" + "z" to leave configuration mode. Type "copy running-config startup-config" and press "Enter" to save your changes. Reboot the router and you should be able to login with your password.

What Hardware You Need to Use in a Network

Computers connected together in a refurbished cisco equipment are the most important element it contains. PCs can run software that makes them routers, gateways, proxies or file servers. Networks, however, also use dedicated hardware devices in specialized configurations with dedicated software. Hardware elements range from very simple splitters to complicated machines that calculate routes for data sent and received across the globe.

Network Adapter
Every device connected to a network must have a network adapter. Part of the function of the network adapter makes it a Media Access Controller. It must listen for silence on the cable before sending a signal, as well as deal with collision of data. Wired network adapters must conform with the requirements of the physical cable. The most common standard for network cable is Ethernet. Local Area Networks (LANs) operate with media access control (MAC) addressing. Every network adapter has a unique serial number which is also used to provide the MAC address. Wireless cisco refurbished adapters operate in the same manner as a regular network adapter, except they have a radio transmitter/receiver instead of a cable socket.

Cable/Cisco Cable
Despite the consumer popularity of wireless networks, most networks in the world are connected by cable. The most common standard for network cable is the Ethernet standard was originally created by Xerox but is not managed by the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers. buy network hardware The IEEE defines a variety of standards with different types of media including fiber optic and unshielded twisted pair. UTP is the most common cable type in use in networks.

Hubs and Switches
The simplest device for transferring data from one computer to another over a network is the hub. The hub is a box with an array of sockets. Each socket hosts a cable and each cable leads to a device such as a computer, printer or fax machine. Any message coming in on one of the sockets is copied and sent out on all other sockets. buy used cisco The hub does not use addresses but merely repeats what arrives on a socket. Originally hubs were popular because they were much cheaper than switches. The falling price of switches is now making hubs obsolete, since switches offer greater functionality. The switch is the same as a hub except it only copies incoming data out to the socket it has associated with the MAC address it finds in the header of the incoming data packet.

Bridges
The task of the Medium Access Controller requires it to wait for silence on a cable before sending data. This means that if there are many computers connected to the same cable, each must wait a long time to get a turn sending data packets. buy and sell cisco Segmenting the network reduces this wait time, since each computer only competes with other computers on the same segment. Network segments are connected via bridges, which are simple switches with only two sockets: one for each segment. Bridges record the MAC addresses of the computers on each segment and pass data from one side to the other if the source and destination of the data packets reside on different segments.

Routers
Switches and Bridges deal with MAC addresses, while routers deal with Internet protocol (IP) addresses. The MAC address is like the street address of a house and the IP address is like the telephone number. buy sell cisco The Address Resolution Protocol (ARP) maps between the two addressing systems. The MAC address applies across one link, which is usually enough to get data across a Local Area Network. Routers send data across many links and the overall path is dictated by the IP address.

Cisco Memory & Flash, Mainly Used for Cisco Network Products

I usually share some information and ideas about Cisco network equipments in yahoo answers, friends from different vocations can talk about Cisco products. And recently, I pay more attention to Cisco memory and flash, so I would like to share some info about Cisco memory and flash with friends who want to buy Cisco memory.

Firstly, let’s see some questions asked by Cisco fans in Yahoo answer
“Where can i get online Cisco FLASH memory in us?”
“Where can I find Cisco Memory?”
“What type of memory for Cisco 2811 Routers? Registered or Unbuffered?”

                                                                                               ----From Yahoo Answers
To reset password on a Cisco/D-link/Linksys/Netgear router is a very common problem among people who want a secure network environment for surfing on the internet. If you are confused with the complicated procedure to reset or change the password on a router, or if you are trying to configure a cisco router ios, but a password is blocking you from enable mode, don't worry, just do the steps as follows, password reset on a router is no longer upset to everyone.

First, be informed that what you need:
• Cisco Router
• Computer
• Internet Connection
• Blue Serial Cable
Guide for You to Reset Password on a Cisco Router:
1. Download a program called Putty from the first resource site below.

PuTTy is a terminal emulator application which can act as a client for the SSH, Telnet, rlogin, and raw TCP computing protocols (PuTTy on Wikipedia).
2. Connect one end of the blue serial cable to the cisco router software and the other to your computer. Open up the Putty program on your computer and select the radio button next to "serial" on the right-hand side of the start window. Click on the "Open" button in the bottom right-hand corner of the Putty start window to open the terminal.
3. Power the buy cisco router on. As soon as the router begins loading in the green and black Putty terminal window, press the "Ctrl" and "Break" keys simultaneously until its going into rommon mode.
4. Once in rommon mode, you have to change the configuration register number to make the router boot from a blank configuration file. For the 2800 series Cisco Routers, the command "confreq 0x2142", changing the register number to 2142, worked. Search on cisco.com for information on your particular Cisco Router Series.

5. Type the restart command in rommon mode, which is "reset". This will boot the router up again. When it is finished, you should be able to type "en" to get into enable mode without a password.
6. Once you change the running-config in RAM and save it to the startup-config in NVRAM, remember to change the configuration register number back to its default (usually 0x2102). This is important if you change anything on the running-config.  ---by Gabe
